Greetings, CrossFit 314ers. Coach Jones (Level 2 CrossFit Trainer… in case you didn’t know) here with a guest blog post.

Now, if you know me, you probably know that I like to mess with Jesse a bit. I give him a hard time during class, get him riled up on the podcast, and sometimes I make his kid cry (sorry, Rosie).

But today, I have to give him props. Today, Jesse Novotney (Level 1 CrossFit Trainer) deadlifted 400 lbs! That’s right. Jesse FINALLY deadlifted 400 lbs. And while that is very impressive, the feat alone isn’t why I have to give him props. About a year ago, Jesse said to me, “You know, I think I’m going to do 10 cycles of Wendler. It would be really cool to deadlift 400 lbs.” I don’t remember my exact reaction, but I would assume I laughed and chalked it up to another ridiculous thing that Jesse says regularly. But that’s exactly what he did. Ten cycle of Wendler. Almost an entire year chasing a goal that most of us thought completely unreasonable. Strength was never Jesse’s forte and adding that much to his deadlift seemed impossible. But here we are. We now live in a world where Jesse Novotney deadlifts 400lb. The real takeaway here is that some goals take longer than the 15 minute warmup, 60 minute class, weeks, months, or even years. If it means enough to you, you will get there. Congrats, Jesse. What’s the next goal?
